Zechariah the Prophet

Reading time 9 minutes   SEE ANNOUNCEMENT BELOW

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Zechariah the prophet wrote his prophecies from 520 to 518 B.C.E.
And perhaps a lot longer.
In 520 he was a young (2:4) priest who had
returned to Jerusalem with the exiles from Babylon.
Ezra 5:1 places him as a contemporary with Haggai.
There he is called the son of Iddo,
who was actually his grandfather and was also a prophet (1:7).
His name means "Yahweh has remembered."

This book consists of two parts.
The first part is chapters 1 through 8, a series of visions pertaining to Israel.
The second part is chapters 9 through 14, prophecy of the end times.

Part One begins (1:1-6) with Yahweh imploring Israel to return to Him
rather than following the ways of their fathers.

Then comes a series of eight visions (1:7-6:15), one after another in one night.

1.) 1:7-17.  The four horsemen of Zechariah.
Yahweh is ready to move Jerusalem forward.
Zechariah 1:16-17  'Therefore thus says Yahweh:
"I am returning to Jerusalem with mercy;
My house shall be built in it," says Yahweh of hosts,
"And a surveyor's line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem."'
17 Again proclaim, saying, 'Thus says Yahweh of hosts:
"My cities shall again spread out through prosperity;
Yahweh will again comfort Zion, And will again choose Jerusalem."' "

2.) 1:18-21. The four horns and the four smiths.
A brief prophecy against the nations Yahweh used to punish Judah.
He is displeased that they were too harsh (v 15).

3.) Ch 2. Measuring Jerusalem so Yahweh can be a wall around her.
Judah should leave her captivity:
Zechariah 2:7-8  "Up, Zion!
Escape, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon."
8 For thus says Yahweh of hosts:
"He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you;
for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.

4.) Ch 3. Yahshua the high priest is lifted from filth and sin by Yahweh.
This Yahshua is a type of the Messiah in some ways.

5.) Ch 4.  The Temple candlestick and the olive-trees.

6.) 5:1-4. The flying scroll.

7.) 5:5-11 The woman (wickedness) in the basket.

8.) 6:1-8. The chariots of the four winds.

Chapters 7 and 8, given two years later, pose the question
whether the days of mourning for the destruction of the city
should be kept any longer.
Yahweh answers that the mourning was insincere anyway,
so what is the point?
Zechariah 7:13-14  "Therefore it happened, that
just as He proclaimed and they would not hear,
so they called out and I would not listen," says Yahweh of hosts.
14 "But I scattered them with a whirlwind
among all the nations which they had not known.
Thus the land became desolate after them,
so that no one passed through or returned;
for they made the pleasant land desolate."

However in Chapter 8 Yahweh is once again encouraging.
Zechariah 8:3  "Thus says Yahweh:
'I will return to Zion, and dwell in the midst of Jerusalem.
Jerusalem shall be called the City of Truth,
The Mountain of Yahweh of hosts,
The Holy Mountain.'

The second part of the book (ch. 9-14) does not have a date.
It may even have been given a long time after the first part.
It consists of two burdens.
The first burden, chapters 9 through 11, is for some of Israel's neighbors.

But verse 9:9 changes to the positive with this well-known messianic passage:
Zechariah 9:9  "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your King is coming to you;
He is just and having salvation,
Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.

Chapters 9 and 10 are generally positive
but in chapter 11 the mood turns stern again.
Zechariah 11:7-10  So I fed the flock for slaughter,
in particular the poor of the flock.
I took for myself two staffs:
the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bonds; and I fed the flock.
8 I dismissed the three shepherds in one month.
My soul loathed them, and their soul also abhorred me.
9 Then I said, "I will not feed you.
Let what is dying die, and what is perishing perish.
Let those that are left eat each other's flesh."
10 And I took my staff, Beauty, and cut it in two,
that I might break the covenant which I had made with all the peoples.

This is a scary passage for a pastor:
Zechariah 11:16-17  "For indeed I will raise up a shepherd in the land
who will not care for those who are cut off, nor seek the young,
nor heal those that are broken, nor feed those that still stand.
But he will eat the flesh of the fat and tear their hooves in pieces.
17 Woe to the worthless shepherd, Who leaves the flock!
A sword shall be against his arm and against his right eye;
His arm shall completely wither, and his right eye shall be totally blinded."

The second burden, in chapters 12 through 14, concerning Israel,
shows the glory that awaits Israel in the latter day,
the final conflict and triumph of Yahweh's kingdom.
These chapters contain some of the most significant prophecies of the end times.

Zechariah 13:1  "In that day a fountain shall be opened
for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
for sin and for uncleanness.

Zechariah 14:1-4 "Behold, THE DAY OF YAHWEH is coming,
And your spoil will be divided in your midst.
2 For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem;
The city shall be taken, The houses rifled, And the women ravished.
Half of the city shall go into captivity,
But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
3 Then Yahweh [Yahshua the Messiah - I come in my Father's name]
will go forth and fight against those nations,
as He fights in the day of battle.
4 And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives,
Which faces Jerusalem on the east.
And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two from east to west,
Making a very large valley;
Half of the mountain shall move toward the north
and half of it toward the south."

Zechariah 14:8-9  And in that day it shall be
That living waters shall flow from Jerusalem,
Half of them toward the eastern sea and half of them toward the western sea;
In both summer and winter it shall occur.
9 And Yahweh shall be King over all the earth.
In that day it shall be; "Yahweh is one," And His name one.

Zechariah 14:16  And it shall come to pass that
everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem
shall go up from year to year to worship the King, Yahweh of hosts,
and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.

Wonderful prophecies!
HalleluYAH!

Here are two songs based on words from Zechariah:

NOT  BY  MIGHT
 Zechariah 4:6-7
(Men) Not by might,    (Women) Not by might,
(M) Nor by power,    (W) Nor by power,
(ALL) But by my spirit, saith Yahweh.
(M) Not by might,    (W) Not by might,
(M) Nor by power,    (W) Nor by power,
(ALL) But by my spirit, saith Yahweh.
  This mountain shall be removed,
  This mountain shall be removed,
  This mountain shall be removed,
  By my spirit, saith Yahweh.

SING AND REJOICE, O DAUGHTER OF ZION
 Zechariah 2:10

Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion:  for lo, I come;
Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion:  for lo, I come;
Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion:  for lo, I come;
Lo; I come, and I will dwell in the house with Thee.

The book of Zechariah is full of sound correction and
uplifting prophecies for Yahweh's people.

Let us all cherish Yahweh's words and take what He has to give.
May Yahweh bless you and your family with His love in each of your hearts.

Haggai the Prophet

Reading time 5 minutes SEE THE ANNOUNCEMENT BELOW

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Haggai the prophet wrote all his prophecies in the year 520 BCE.
We know because he dated his prophecies to the second year of Darius.
He was given prophecies at four different times (1:1, 1:15,2:1 and 2:10)
His name is derived from the word for festival.
He may have been born on a Holy Day.
Most of this book is the quoted words of Yahweh.

Yahweh begins by telling the Jews that He is displeased
because they have not rebuilt the temple. (1:2-6)
He shows them that the curses they have experienced are
because they have not built it. (1:7-11)

The people begin to obey Yahweh and
He sends them a short but very powerful message.
Haggai 1:13  Then Haggai, Yahweh's messenger,
spoke Yahweh's message to the people, saying,
"I AM WITH YOU, SAYS YAHWEH."

14  So Yahweh stirred up
the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah,
and the spirit of Yahshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest,
and the spirit of all the remnant of the people;
and they came and worked on the house of Yahweh of hosts, their Elohim,

A month later Yahweh sends another encouraging message:
Haggai 2:1-9  In the seventh month, on the twenty-first of the month,
the word of Yahweh came by Haggai the prophet, saying:
2 "Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah,
and to Yahshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest,
and to the remnant of the people, saying:
3 'Who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory?
And how do you see it now?
In comparison with it, is this not in your eyes as nothing?
4 'Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel,' says Yahweh;
'and be strong, Yahshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest;
and be strong, all you people of the land,' says Yahweh,
'and work; for I AM WITH YOU,' says Yahweh of hosts.
5 'According to the word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt,
so My Spirit remains among you;
do not fear!'
6 "For thus says Yahweh of hosts:
'Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land;
7 'and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations,
and I will fill this temple with glory,' says Yahweh of hosts.
8 'The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,' says Yahweh of hosts.
9 'The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,'
says Yahweh of hosts.
'And in this place I will give shalom,' says Yahweh of hosts."

Verse 6 is quoted two times in the NT

Haggai 2:6  "For thus says Yahweh of hosts:
'ONCE MORE (IT IS A LITTLE WHILE)
I WILL SHAKE HEAVEN AND EARTH, the sea and dry land;

Hebrews 12:26  When Yahweh spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth,
but now he makes another promise:
"ONCE AGAIN I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH BUT THE HEAVENS ALSO."

Revelation 6:12  I looked when He opened the sixth seal,
and behold, there was A GREAT EARTHQUAKE;
and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair,
and the moon became like blood.

The remainder of this book was given in two parts on the same day.
In the first part (2:10-19) Yahweh explains that He has cursed the nation
because they have turned away from Him.

In the second part, Yahweh declares that He will use Zerubbabel
to show His power through military victories
Haggai 2:21-23  "Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying:
'I will shake heaven and earth.
22 I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms;
I will destroy the strength of the Gentile kingdoms.
I will overthrow the chariots And those who ride in them;
The horses and their riders shall come down,
Every one by the sword of his brother.
23 'In that day,' says Yahweh of hosts,
'I will take you, Zerubbabel My servant, the son of Shealtiel,'
says Yahweh, 'and will make you like a signet ring;
for I have chosen you,' says Yahweh of hosts."

Let us all remember that through Yahweh we will have victory and shalom.
May Yahweh bless you and your family with the fruit of following Him.

Daniel The Prophet I

Sabbath Greetings   060304  Daniel the Prophet I

Reading time 8 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Daniel the prophet wrote from about 605 to 536 B.C.E.
His name means "My Judge is El."
He was among the first group taken captive to Babylon in about 605.
His period of prophesies continued into the reign of Cyrus, the Persian king. (10:1)
This would make a total of about 70 years of service.

Chapter 1 tells how Daniel was taken to Babylon and lived at the king's expense.
The Hebrew young men were more able than others.
Daniel, in particular was blessed with wisdom and understanding.

Chapter 2 tells of the king's dream that he couldn't remember.
He demanded of his "wise men" that they tell him
what he dreamed and what it meant.
If not he would have them killed!
Daniel was the only one who was given the information by Yahweh.
The dream was of an image of a man with head of gold,
breast of silver, belly of bronze, legs of iron and feet of iron mixed with clay.

Daniel told of the meaning of four world-ruling kingdoms.
These were Babylon, Medes and Persians, Greece, and Rome.
Yahweh also gave him the vision of the destruction of this image
by Yahshua the Messiah.
Yahweh's everlasting kingdom was the final one.

Chapter 3 tells the well-known story of the three young men
who were thrown into the furnace because they refused to bow down to an idol.

Chapter 4 was written by king Nebuchadnezzer!
He relates another dream, how Daniel interpreted it,
and how the prophecy was fulfilled.
It involved the king acting like an animal for seven years!

Chapter 5 is about Nebuchadnezzer's son, Belshazzar.
He was giving a big banquet when a man's hand appeared
and wrote some words on the wall.
No one could read the writing nor tell what it meant.

Daniel was called and he told the king he had been unrighteous,
and the writing was made clear by Elohim.

Daniel 5:25-31  "And this is the inscription that was written:
MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
26 "This is the interpretation of each word.
MENE: Elohim has numbered your kingdom, and finished it;
27 "TEKEL: You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting;
28 "PERES: Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians."
29 Then Belshazzar gave the command,
and they clothed Daniel with purple and put a chain of gold around his neck,
and made a proclamation concerning him
that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
30 That very night Belshazzar, king of the Chaldeans, was slain.
31 And Darius the Mede received the kingdom . . . .

Chapter 6 is the story of Daniel being put into the lions' den.

Chapter 7 goes back to the reign of Belshazzar and begins
some of the most detailed prophecy in the entire Bible.

Daniel sees a vision of four different mighty beasts coming up out of the sea.
These beasts seem to be the same as the kingdoms of chapter 2.

Chapter 8 tells of the vision of the ram and the he-goat fighting.
The angel Gabriel explains the vision.
But even the explanation is not clear to Daniel.
Daniel 8:27  And I, Daniel, fainted and was sick for days;
afterward I arose and went about the king's business.
I was astonished by the vision, but no one understood it.

Chapter 9 begins with Daniel telling that he understands that
the desolation of Jerusalem must last 70 years.
He then records a prayer which is a good model
for anyone who is seeking Yahweh's help.

The angel Gabriel is sent to answer Daniel's prayer.
He provides a view of the future that should encourage Yahweh's people.
Daniel 9:24-27  "Seventy sevens [490 years?] are determined
for your people and for your holy city [Jerusalem],
to finish the transgression,
to make an end of sins,
to make reconciliation for iniquity,
to bring in everlasting righteousness,
to seal up vision and prophecy,
and to anoint the Most Holy.
25  "Know therefore and understand,
That from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem
[The command by Artaxerxes in about 445 B.C. E. (Nehemiah 2:1-8)]
until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven sevens and sixty-two sevens [=483 years];
The street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times.
[Ezra and Nehemiah rebuilt the wall and the temple.]
26 "And after the sixty-two sevens [434 years] Messiah shall be cut off [killed],
but not for Himself [rather to save others];
And the people of the prince who is to come [Romans]
shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. [Fulfilled in 70 C.E.]
The end of it shall be with a flood,
And till the end of the war desolations are determined.
27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one seven [7 years];
But in the middle of the seven [after 3 ÃÆ’Æ’‚ÃÆ’‚½ years]
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
[sin sacrifices continued but were no longer needed since the true sacrifice had been made]
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate."

In these verses we see prophecies of
   - a decree to rebuild Jerusalem. See also Isa 8
   - The implication that Jerusalem (and the Temple) would be rebuilt.
   - A time period until the anointed one (messiah) comes.
   - The Messiah would be "cut off" or "killed".
   - Then Jerusalem and the Temple to be destroyed again.

These prophecies are so clear and exact
that scholars have tried hard to show
that the book of Daniel was written after the Babylonian captivity ended.

The "sevens" of the prophecy are sets of years called "sabbatical years",
an important measure of time in Yahweh's calendar.
Violation of the command to observe the sabbatical year
brought the judgment of the Babylonian captivity
and determined its length of seventy years.
See Leviticus 25:1 - 22; 26:33 - 35 and 2 Chronicles 36:19 - 21

The last seven of the seventy is devoted to the ministry of Yahshua the Messiah
in warning the people of earth to obey Yahweh their Elohim.
His ministry was "cut off in the middle" by his death on the tree.
The second half could be completed in the three and one-half years
just before His second coming.
See Revelation 11:3 about the ministry of the two witnesses.

We will continue the interesting prophecies of Daniel next Sabbath.

Let us search for the important meaning of every verse of scripture.

May Yahweh bless you and your family
with love of His Word and love of His children.

                  Daniel The Prophet II

Sabbath Greetings   060311  Daniel the Prophet II

Reading time 22 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

This Sabbath we're looking at the last 3 chapters of Daniel
and at the ways new testament writers used his work.

Daniel 10 sets the stage for chapters 11 and 12
Daniel is approached by an angel (probably Gabriel):
Daniel 10:5  I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold,
a certain man clothed in linen, whose waist was girded with gold of Uphaz!

This angel tells Daniel he is going to tell him about the future of the Israelites:
Daniel 10:14  "Now I have come to make you understand
what will happen to your people in the latter days,
for the vision refers to many days yet to come."

Daniel 10:21  "But I will tell you what is noted in the Scripture of Truth.
(No one upholds me against these, except Michael your prince.)

Michael, is another archangel who helped Gabriel
to get free of another task and come to Daniel (verse 13)

Chapter 11 had its first fulfillment in the years between
Alexander the Great (about 400 B.C.E. and the Macabees (about 160 B.C.E.)

Chapter 11 is long and complex.
There is a nice explanation of this chapter at this web page:
http://www.4thewordofgod.com/Daniel_11.htm
I won't say I necessarily agree with each element of his interpretation
but the history presented is terrific.
Worth a look if you're at all interested.

Many prophecies have an early and a later fulfillment.
There may be a second fulfillment of Daniel 11 in the near future.
Some of these same things could happen at the time of the end of days.
I believe they will.

Chapter 12 is definitely a prophecy for the last days.
Yahshua refers to this prophecy in Matthew, Mark, and Revelation. (See below)

Daniel 12:1-3  "At that time Michael shall stand up,
The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people;
And there shall be a time of trouble, Such as never was since there was a nation,
Even to that time.
And at that time your people shall be delivered,
Every one who is found written in the book.
2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
Some to everlasting life, Some to shame and everlasting contempt.
3 Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament,
and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.

Here are the places where Daniel is quoted or referred to in the NT.

Daniel 2:34-35  "You watched while A STONE was cut out without hands,
which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and BROKE THEM IN PIECES.
35 "Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were CRUSHED together,
and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors;
the wind carried them away so that no trace of them was found.
And the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

Daniel 2:44  "And in the days of these kings the Elohim of heaven will
set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed;
and the kingdom shall not be left to other people;
IT SHALL BREAK IN PIECES AND CONSUME all these kingdoms,
and it shall stand forever.

Matthew 21:44  "And whoever falls on THIS STONE will be broken;
but on whomever it falls, it WILL GRIND HIM TO POWDER."

Daniel 2:37  "You, O king, are a king of kings.
For the Elohim of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, strength, and glory;

Revelation 13:7  It was granted to him to make war with the saints
and to overcome them.
And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.

Daniel 2:44  "And in the days of these kings
the Elohim of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed;
and the kingdom shall not be left to other people;
it shall BREAK IN PIECES AND CONSUME all these kingdoms,
and IT SHALL STAND FOREVER.

Luke 20:18  "Whoever falls on that stone will be broken;
but on whomever it falls, IT WILL GRIND HIM TO POWDER."

Revelation 11:15  Then the seventh angel sounded:
And there were loud voices in heaven, saying,
"The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Master
and of His Messiah, and HE SHALL REIGN FOREVER AND EVER!"

Daniel 4:3  How great are His signs, And how mighty His wonders!
HIS KINGDOM IS AN EVERLASTING KINGDOM,
And His dominion is from generation to generation.

Luke 1:33  "And HE WILL REIGN over the house of Jacob FOREVER,
and of His kingdom there will be no end."

Daniel 5:19  "And because of the majesty that He gave him,
all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him.
WHOMEVER HE WISHED, HE EXECUTED; WHOMEVER HE WISHED HE KEPT ALIVE;
WHOMEVER HE WISHED, HE SET UP; AND WHOMEVER HE WISHED, HE PUT DOWN.

Revelation 13:7  It was granted to him to make war with the saints
and to overcome them.
And AUTHORITY WAS GIVEN HIM OVER EVERY TRIBE, TONGUE, AND NATION.

Daniel 6 tells about Darius having Daniel thrown into the lion's den.

Hebrews 11:33  who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness,
obtained promises, STOPPED THE MOUTHS OF LIONS,

Daniel 7:3  "And four great BEASTS CAME UP FROM THE SEA,
each different from the other.

Daniel 7:7  "After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast,
dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong.
It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces,
and trampling the residue with its feet.
It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and IT HAD TEN HORNS.

Daniel 7:8  "I was considering the horns,
and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them,
before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots.
And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man,
and a mouth speaking pompous words.

Daniel 7:25  He shall speak pompous WORDS AGAINST THE MOST HIGH,
Shall persecute the saints of the Most High,
And shall intend to change times and law.
Then the saints shall be given into his hand for a time and times and half a time.

Revelation 12:3  And another sign appeared in heaven:
behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and TEN HORNS,
and seven diadems on his heads.

Revelation 13:1  Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw
A BEAST RISING UP OUT OF THE SEA,
having seven heads and TEN HORNS,
and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name.

Revelation 13:5-6  And he was given a mouth speaking great things
and BLASPHEMIES,
and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months.
6 Then he opened his mouth in BLASPHEMY AGAINST ELOHIM,
to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven.

Revelation 17:3  So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness.
And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast
which was full of NAMES OF BLASPHEMY,
having seven heads and TEN HORNS.

Daniel 7:5-6  "And suddenly another beast, a second, like a bear.
It was raised up on one side, and had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth.
And they said thus to it: 'Arise, devour much flesh!'
6 "After this I looked, and there was ANOTHER, LIKE A LEOPARD,
which had on its back four wings of a bird.
The beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it.

Revelation 13:2  Now the beast which I saw was LIKE A LEOPARD,
his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion.
The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority.

Daniel 7:9  "I watched till thrones were put in place,
And the Ancient of Days was seated;
HIS GARMENT WAS WHITE AS SNOW,
And THE HAIR OF HIS HEAD WAS LIKE PURE WOOL.
His throne was a fiery flame, Its wheels a burning fire;

Revelation 1:14-15
His HEAD AND HAIR were WHITE LIKE WOOL, AS WHITE AS SNOW,
and His eyes like a flame of fire;
15 His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace,
and His voice as the sound of many waters;

Daniel 7:10  A fiery stream issued And came forth from before Him.
A THOUSAND THOUSANDS ministered to Him;
TEN THOUSAND TIMES TEN THOUSAND stood before Him.
The court was seated, And the books were opened.

Daniel 7:22  "until the Ancient of Days came,
and a JUDGMENT WAS MADE in favor of THE SAINTS of the Most High,
and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom.

Revelation 5:11  Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels
around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders;
and the number of them was TEN THOUSAND TIMES TEN THOUSAND,
and THOUSANDS OF THOUSANDS,

Revelation 11:18  The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come,
And the time of the dead, that they should be judged,
And that You should REWARD YOUR SERVANTS the prophets and THE SAINTS,
And those who fear Your name, small and great,
And should destroy those who destroy the earth."

Daniel 7:13  "I WAS WATCHING in the night visions,
AND BEHOLD, ONE LIKE THE SON OF MAN,
COMING WITH THE CLOUDS of heaven!
He came to the Ancient of Days,
And they brought Him near before Him.

Revelation 14:14  Then I LOOKED, AND BEHOLD, a white cloud,
and on the cloud sat ONE LIKE THE SON OF MAN,
having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle.

Revelation 1:7  Behold, He is COMING WITH CLOUDS,
and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him.
And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him.
Even so, Amen.

Daniel 7:14  Then TO HIM WAS GIVEN DOMINION and glory and a kingdom,
That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion which shall not pass away,
and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.

Matthew 28:18  And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying,
"ALL AUTHORITY HAS BEEN GIVEN TO ME in heaven and on earth. . .

Daniel 7:20  "and the TEN HORNS that were on its head,
and the other horn which came up, before which three fell,
namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth which spoke pompous words,
whose appearance was greater than his fellows.

Revelation 17:12  "The TEN HORNS which you saw are ten kings
who have received no kingdom as yet,
but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast.

Daniel 7:21  "I was watching;
and the same horn was MAKING WAR AGAINST THE SAINTS,
AND PREVAILING AGAINST THEM,

Revelation 11:7  When they finish their testimony,
the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will MAKE WAR AGAINST THEM,
OVERCOME THEM, and kill them.

Daniel 7:25  He shall SPEAK pompous WORDS AGAINST THE MOST HIGH,
Shall persecute the saints of the Most High,
And shall intend to change times and law.
Then the saints shall be
GIVEN INTO HIS HAND FOR A TIME AND TIMES AND HALF A TIME.

This probably means given into the hand of the Most High

Revelation 13:5-6  And he was given a mouth
SPEAKING great things and BLASPHEMIES,
and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months.
6 Then he opened his mouth in BLASPHEMY AGAINST ELOHIM,
to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven.

Revelation 12:14  But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle,
that she might fly into the wilderness to her place,
WHERE SHE IS NOURISHED FOR A TIME AND TIMES AND HALF A TIME,
from the presence of the serpent.

Revelation 12:6  Then the woman fled into the wilderness,
where she has a place prepared by Yahweh,
that they should feed her there
ONE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY DAYS. (3 ½ years )

Daniel 8:10  And it grew up to the host of heaven;
and IT CAST DOWN some of the host
and some OF THE STARS TO THE GROUND, and trampled them.

Revelation 12:4  His tail DREW A THIRD OF THE STARS OF HEAVEN
AND THREW THEM TO THE EARTH.
And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth,
to devour her Child as soon as it was born.

Daniel 8:24  His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power;
He shall destroy fearfully, and shall prosper and thrive;
HE SHALL DESTROY the mighty, and also THE HOLY PEOPLE.

Revelation 13:7  It was granted to him
to make war with THE SAINTS AND TO OVERCOME THEM.
And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.

Daniel 8:13  Then I heard a holy one speaking;
and another holy one said to that certain one who was speaking,
"How long will the vision be, concerning the daily sacrifices
and THE TRANSGRESSION OF DESOLATION,
the giving of both the sanctuary and the host to be trampled under foot?"

Mark 13:14  "So when you see THE 'ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION,'
spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not"
(let the reader understand), "then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

Matthew 24:15  "Therefore when you see THE 'ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION,'
spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place"
(whoever reads, let him understand),

Daniel 8:25  "Through his cunning He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule;
And he shall exalt himself in his heart.
He shall destroy many in their prosperity.
HE SHALL EVEN RISE AGAINST THE PRINCE OF PRINCES;
BUT HE SHALL BE BROKEN WITHOUT human MEANS.

Revelation 17:14  "These WILL MAKE WAR WITH THE LAMB,
AND THE LAMB WILL OVERCOME THEM,
for He is Lord of lords and King of kings;
and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful."

Daniel 8:26  "And the vision of the evenings and mornings
which was told is true;
Therefore SEAL UP THE VISION, For it refers to many days in the future."

Revelation 10:4  Now when the seven thunders uttered their voices,
I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven saying to me,
"SEAL UP THE THINGS which the seven thunders uttered,
 and do not write them."

Daniel 9:27  Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of ABOMINATIONS shall be one who makes DESOLATE,
Even until the consummation,
which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate."

Daniel 11:31  "And forces shall be mustered by him,
and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress;
then they shall take away the daily sacrifices,
and place there the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION.

Daniel 12:11  "And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away,
and the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION is set up,
there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days.

Matthew 24:15  "Therefore when you see the 'ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION,'
spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place"
(whoever reads, let him understand),

Mark 13:14  "So when you see the 'ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION,'
spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not"
(let the reader understand), "then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

Daniel 10:5-6  I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold,
a certain man clothed in linen, whose waist was girded with gold of Uphaz!
6 His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning,
HIS EYES LIKE TORCHES OF FIRE,
his arms and feet like burnished bronze in color,
and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude.

Revelation 19:12  HIS EYES WERE LIKE A FLAME OF FIRE,
and on His head were many crowns.
He had a name written that no one knew except Himself.

Daniel 10:13  "But the prince of the kingdom of Persia
withstood me twenty-one days;
and behold, MICHAEL, one of the chief princes, came to help me,
for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.

Daniel 10:21  "But I will tell you what is noted in the Scripture of Truth.
(No one upholds me against these, except MICHAEL your prince.)

Revelation 12:7  And war broke out in heaven:
MICHAEL and his angels fought with the dragon;
and the dragon and his angels fought,

Daniel 11:36  "Then the king shall do according to his own will:
he shall EXALT AND MAGNIFY HIMSELF ABOVE EVERY ELOHIM,
shall speak blasphemies against the Elohim of Elohim,
and shall prosper till the wrath has been accomplished;
for what has been determined shall be done.

2 Thessalonians 2:4  who opposes and
EXALTS HIMSELF ABOVE ALL THAT IS CALLED ELOHIM
or that is worshiped, so that he sits as Elohim in the temple of Yahweh,
showing himself that he is Elohim.

Daniel 11:44  "But news from the east and the north shall trouble him;
therefore he shall go out with great fury to DESTROY AND ANNIHILATE MANY.

Revelation 11:18  The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come,
and the time of the dead, that they should be judged,
and that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints,
and those who fear Your name, small and great,
and should destroy those who DESTROY THE EARTH."

Daniel 12:1  "At that time MICHAEL shall stand up,
The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people;
And there shall be a time of TROUBLE
SUCH AS NEVER WAS since there was a nation, Even to that time.
And at that time your people shall be delivered,
Every one who is found written in the book.

Revelation 12:7  And war broke out in heaven:
MICHAEL and his angels fought with the dragon;
and the dragon and his angels fought,

Matthew 24:21  "For then there will be great TRIBULATION,
SUCH AS HAS NOT BEEN since the beginning of the world until this time,
no, nor ever shall be.

Daniel 12:7  Then I heard the man clothed in linen,
who was above the waters of the river,
when HE HELD UP HIS RIGHT HAND AND HIS LEFT HAND TO HEAVEN,
and swore by Him who lives forever,
that it shall be for A TIME, TIMES, AND HALF A TIME;
and when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered,
all these things shall be finished.

Daniel 12:9  And he said, "Go your way, Daniel,
for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

Revelation 10:5  The angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land
RAISED UP HIS HAND TO HEAVEN

But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle,
that she might fly into the wilderness to her place,
where she is nourished for A TIME AND TIMES AND HALF A TIME,
from the presence of the serpent.

There is another interesting thread from Daniel in Revelation,
the period of "three and one half years."
If you use 30 days for a month and 12 months to a year
then you get 42 months or 1260 days
We see this in Daniel 7:25, 12:7, Revelation 11:2 & 3, 12:6, 12:14 and 13:5.
This is the same length of time as one-half of the final seven-year period of Daniel 9:27.
I have often wondered if the three ways of expressing this time
are meant to indicate some difference.

Then there are two other similar times mentioned at the close of Daniel:
Daniel 12:11-12  "And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away,
and the abomination of desolation is set up,
there shall be ONE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY DAYS.
12 "Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the
ONE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-FIVE DAYS.

Some day Yahweh will let us in on ALL His secrets

Let us all pray that day comes soon.
May Yahweh bless you and your family with the blessings of that day.

                                Exekiel the Prophet II

Sabbath Greetings   060225  Ezekiel the Prophet II

Reading time 16 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

This week we will conclude our brief visit with Ezekiel by
looking at the way his words are used in the NT.

Ezekiel 1:1-28 seems to be a description of the same angels as in Revelation 4:5-8

Ezekiel 1:22 also seems to describe
the same surface of crystal as in Revelation 4:6 and 15:2

In the following sets of scriptures the similar words are capitalized.
In many cases the prophet Ezekiel gives more detail
which is invoked by the NT writer citing the passage.

Ezekiel 2:8-9  "But you, son of man, hear what I say to you.
Do not be rebellious like that rebellious house;
open your mouth and eat what I give you."
9  Now when I looked, there was a hand stretched out to me;
and behold, a scroll of a book was in it.
Ezekiel 3:3  And He said to me, "Son of man,
feed your belly, and fill your stomach with this scroll that I give you."
So I ate, and IT WAS IN MY MOUTH LIKE HONEY IN SWEETNESS.
Revelation 10:2  He had a little book open in his hand.
And he set his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land,
Revelation 10:10  Then I took the little book out of the angel's hand and ate it,
and IT WAS AS SWEET AS HONEY IN MY MOUTH.
But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter.

Ezekiel 8:2  Then I looked, and there was a likeness,
like the appearance of fire; from the appearance of His waist and downward, fire;
and from His waist and upward, like the appearance of brightness,
like the color of amber.
Ezekiel 43:2  And behold, the glory of the Elohim of Israel
came from the way of the east.
HIS VOICE WAS LIKE THE SOUND OF MANY WATERS;
and the earth shone with His glory.
Revelation 1:14-15  His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow,
and His eyes like a flame of fire;
15 His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace,
and HIS VOICE AS THE SOUND OF MANY WATERS;

Ezekiel 9:2  And suddenly six men came from the direction of the upper gate,
which faces north, each with his battle-ax in his hand.
One man among them was clothed with linen and had a writer's inkhorn at his side.
They went in and stood beside the bronze altar.
Ezekiel 9:4  and Yahweh said to him,
"Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem,
and put a mark on the foreheads of the men
who sigh and cry over all the abominations that are done within it."
Revelation 7:2-3  Then I saw another angel ascending from the east,
having the seal of the living Elohim.
And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels
to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea,
3 saying, "Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees
till we have sealed the servants of our Elohim on their foreheads."

Ezekiel 9:6  "Utterly slay old and young men,
maidens and little children and women;
but do not come near anyone on whom is the mark;
and begin at My sanctuary."
So they began with the elders who were before the temple.
Revelation 9:4  They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth,
or any green thing, or any tree,
but only those men who do not have the seal of Yahweh on their foreheads.

Ezekiel 10:2  Then He spoke to the man clothed with linen, and said,
"Go in among the wheels, under the cherub,
fill your hands with coals of fire from among the cherubim,
and scatter them over the city." And he went in as I watched.
Revelation 8:5  Then the angel took the censer,
filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth.
And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake.
Revelation 16:2  So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth,
and a foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had
the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image.

Ezekiel 10:4  Then the glory of Yahweh went up from the cherub,
and paused over the threshold of the temple;
and the house was filled with the cloud,
and the court was full of the brightness of Yahweh's glory.
Revelation 15:8  The temple was filled with smoke
from the glory of Yahweh and from His power,
and no one was able to enter the temple
till the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed.

Ezekiel 10:12  And their whole body, with their back, their hands,
their wings, and the wheels that the four had, were FULL OF EYES ALL AROUND.
Revelation 4:6  Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal.
And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne,
were four living creatures FULL OF EYES IN FRONT AND IN BACK.

Ezekiel 14:21  For thus says the Sovereign Yahweh:
"How much more it shall be when I send my four severe judgments on Jerusalem;
the sword and famine and wild beasts and pestilence;
to cut off man and beast from it?
Revelation 6:8  So I looked, and behold, a pale horse.
And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him.
And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth,
to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.

Ezekiel 20:11  "And I gave them My statutes and showed them My judgments,
'which, IF A MAN DOES, HE SHALL LIVE BY THEM.'
Romans 10:5  For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law,
"THE MAN WHO DOES THOSE THINGS SHALL LIVE BY THEM."

Ezekiel 27:1-36 appears to be echoed in Revelation 18:11

Ezekiel 32:7  When I put out your light, I will cover the heavens,
and make its stars dark;
I will COVER THE SUN with a cloud,
And THE MOON SHALL NOT GIVE HER LIGHT.
Revelation 8:12  Then the fourth angel sounded:
And a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars,
so that a third of them were darkened.
A third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night.
Matthew 24:29  "Immediately after the tribulation of those days
the SUN WILL BE DARKENED,
AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT;
the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

Ezekiel 36:20  "When they came to the nations,
wherever they went, THEY PROFANED MY HOLY NAME;
when they said of them, 'These are the people of Yahweh,
and yet they have gone out of His land.'
Romans 2:24  For "THE NAME OF YAHWEH
IS BLASPHEMED AMONG THE GENTILES BECAUSE OF YOU," as it is written.

Ezekiel 37:27  "My tabernacle also shall be with them;
indeed I will be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.
Revelation 21:3  And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying,
"Behold, the tabernacle of Elohim is with men,
and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people.
Yahweh Himself will be with them and be their Elohim.

Ezekiel 38:14  "Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to GOG, '. . .
Ezekiel 38:22  "And I will bring him to judgment with . . .
great hailstones, FIRE, and brimstone.
Revelation 20:8-9  and will go out to deceive the nations
which are in the four corners of the earth, GOG and Magog,
to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea.
9 They went up on the breadth of the earth
and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city.
And FIRE CAME DOWN from God OUT OF HEAVEN and devoured them.

Ezekiel 39:17-20  "And as for you, son of man,
thus says the Sovereign Yahweh,
'SPEAK TO EVERY SORT OF BIRD and to every beast of the field:
"ASSEMBLE YOURSELVES AND COME;
GATHER TOGETHER FROM ALL SIDES TO MY SACRIFICIAL MEAL
which I am sacrificing for you, A great sacrificial meal on the mountains of Israel,
That you may eat flesh and drink blood.
18 YOU SHALL EAT THE FLESH OF THE MIGHTY,
Drink the blood of the princes of the earth,
of rams and lambs, of goats and bulls, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
19 You shall eat fat till you are full, and drink blood till you are drunk,
At My sacrificial meal which I am sacrificing for you.
20 You shall be filled at My table WITH HORSES AND RIDERS,
with mighty men and with all the men of war,"
says the Sovereign Yahweh.
Revelation 19:17-18  Then I saw an angel standing in the sun;
and he cried with a loud voice, SAYING TO ALL THE BIRDS
that fly in the midst of heaven,
"COME AND GATHER TOGETHER FOR THE SUPPER OF THE GREAT ELOHIM,
18 "that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains,
THE FLESH OF MIGHTY MEN, THE FLESH OF HORSES
AND OF THOSE WHO SIT ON THEM,
and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great."

Ezekiel 40:2  In the visions of Elohim
He took me into the land of Israel and SET ME ON A VERY HIGH MOUNTAIN;
on it toward the south was something like the structure of A CITY.
Revelation 21:2  Then I, John, saw THE holy CITY,
New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from Yahweh,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Revelation 21:10  And he carried me away in the Spirit
to A GREAT AND HIGH MOUNTAIN,
and showed me THE great CITY, the holy Jerusalem,
descending out of heaven from Elohim,

Ezekiel 40:3  He took me there, and behold,
there was a man whose appearance was like the appearance of bronze.
HE HAD a line of flax and A MEASURING ROD in his hand,
and he stood in the gateway.
Ezekiel 40:47  And he measured the court,
one hundred cubits long and one hundred cubits wide, foursquare.
The altar was in front of the temple.
Ezekiel 41:13  So he MEASURED THE TEMPLE, one hundred cubits long;
and the separating courtyard with the building and its walls
was one hundred cubits long;
Revelation 21:15  And he who talked with me HAD A GOLD REED
TO MEASURE the city, its gates, and its wall.
Revelation 11:1  Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod.
And the angel stood, saying,
"Rise and MEASURE THE TEMPLE of Yahweh,
the altar, and those who worship there.

Ezekiel 44:9  'Thus says the Sovereign Yahweh:
"NO foreigner, uncircumcised in heart or uncircumcised in flesh,
SHALL ENTER My sanctuary,
including any foreigner who is among the children of Israel.
Revelation 21:27  But there shall by NO means ENTER IT
anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie,
but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.

Ezekiel 47:1-8  Then he brought me back to the door of the temple;
and there was water,
flowing from under the threshold of the temple toward the east,
for the front of the temple faced east;
the water was flowing from under the right side of the temple,
south of the altar.
2 He brought me out by way of the north gate,
and led me around on the outside to the outer gateway that faces east;
and there was water, running out on the right side.
3 And when the man went out to the east with the line in his hand,
he measured one thousand cubits,
and he brought me through the waters; the water came up to my ankles.
4 Again he measured one thousand
and brought me through the waters; the water came up to my knees.
Again he measured one thousand
and brought me through; the water came up to my waist.
5 Again he measured one thousand,
and it was a river that I could not cross; for the water was too deep,
water in which one must swim, a river that could not be crossed.
6 He said to me, "Son of man, have you seen this?"
Then he brought me and returned me to the bank of the river.
7 When I returned, there, along the bank of the river,
were very many trees on one side and the other.
8 Then he said to me: "This water flows toward the eastern region,
goes down into the valley, and enters the sea.
When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed.
Ezekiel 47:12  "Along the bank of the river, on this side and that,
will grow all kinds of trees used for food;
their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail.
They will BEAR FRUIT EVERY MONTH,
because their water flows from the sanctuary.
Their fruit will be for food, and THEIR LEAVES FOR MEDICINE."
Revelation 22:1-2  And he showed me a pure river of water of life,
clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of Yahweh and of the Lamb.
2 In the middle of its street, and ON EITHER SIDE OF THE RIVER,
WAS THE TREE of life, which bore twelve fruits,
each tree YIELDING ITS FRUIT EVERY MONTH.
THE LEAVES of the tree WERE FOR THE HEALING of the nations.

Ezekiel 48:31  (the GATES OF THE CITY
shall be NAMED AFTER THE TRIBES OF ISRAEL),
the three gates northward:
one gate for Reuben, one gate for Judah, and one gate for Levi;
Revelation 21:12  Also she had a great and high wall with TWELVE GATES,
and twelve angels at the gates, and names written on them,
WHICH ARE THE NAMES OF THE TWELVE TRIBES OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL:

Ezekiel 48:35  "All the way around shall be eighteen thousand cubits;
and the name of the city from that day shall be: YAHWEH Is THERE."
Revelation 21:23  The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it,
for the glory of Yahweh illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.
Revelation 22:5  There shall be no night there:
They need no lamp nor light of the sun,
for the Sovereign Yahweh gives them light.
And they shall reign forever and ever.

This review of Ezekiel has been inspiring to me
and I hope it has been for you too.

Let us all take heed of the prophecies Yahweh has given us
to walk in His ways and be pleasing to Him.

May Yahweh bless you and your family
with love and patience in your home.

The New Moon should be observed in the USA the evening of 2-28-2006
making 3-1 the New Moon Day.

Ezekiel the Prophet

Reading time 13 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Ezekiel the Priest and Prophet wrote from about 593 to 571 B.C.E.
He was taken captive to Babylon in the second group of Jews
who were taken to Babylon in about 598.
2 Kings 24:14-16  Also he ( the king of Babylon )
carried into captivity all Jerusalem:
all the captains and all the mighty men of valor, ten thousand captives,
and all the craftsmen and smiths.
None remained except the poorest people of the land.
15 And he carried Jehoiachin captive to Babylon.
The king's mother, the king's wives, his officers, and the mighty of the land
he carried into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon.
16 All the valiant men, seven thousand,
and craftsmen and smiths, one thousand,
all who were strong and fit for war,
these the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.

He wrote his prophecies there for many years.
Ezekiel 1:2 says he began to write in the fifth year of the captivity
and 29:17 says he received another prophecy in the 27th year of the captivity.
So he wrote for at least 22 years.

We say this is the prophecy of Ezekiel
but far more than half of the book is the words of Yahweh.
Much of the rest is a record of visions given by Yahweh.

The book of Ezekiel may be divided into three parts:
Chapters. 1-24 present prophecies against Judah and Jerusalem before the fall of Jerusalem
Chapters 25-32 the prophecies against other nations
Chapters 33-48 promises for the future restoration of Israel and the Temple.
 Some of these prophecies are clearly about Yahshua's coming 1000-year reign.

In chapter 1, Ezekiel describes his vision of Yahweh's moving throne.
It must have been a wonder to behold.

In chapters 2 and 3 Ezekiel tells about being given a scroll to eat.
On the scroll were written "lamentations, mourning, and woe."
He is told to warn Israel and Judah to turn from their sins.

In chapter 4 he is told to make a model of Jerusalem
and model a war against it. Then! :
Ezekiel 4:4-6  "Lie also on your left side,
and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it.
According to the number of the days that you lie on it,
you shall bear their iniquity.
5 For I have laid on you the years of their iniquity,
according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days;
so you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.
6 And when you have completed them, lie again on your right side;
then you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days.
I have laid on you a day for each year.

Sometimes it's hard being a prophet.

What Yahweh said in 4:12 was too much for Ezekiel.

In chapter 5 he had to shave his hair and divide it in thirds to be
burned, struck with a sword and scattered.
A little bit of hair was to be saved and then also burned.
This is a picture of the punishment on Jerusalem for their sins

A well-known vision of idolatry is recorded in chapter 8
Ezekiel 8:15-17  Then He ( Yahweh ) said to me,
"Have you seen this, O son of man?
Turn again, you will see greater abominations than these."
16 So He brought me into the inner court of Yahweh's house;
and there, at the door of the temple of Yahweh,
between the porch and the altar,
were about twenty-five men with their backs toward the temple of Yahweh
and their faces toward the east, and they were worshiping the sun toward the east.
17 And He said to me, "Have you seen this, O son of man?
Is it a trivial thing to the house of Judah
to commit the abominations which they commit here?
For they have filled the land with violence;
then they have returned to provoke Me to anger.

Ezekiel records Yahweh's statement of individual responsibility:
Ezekiel 18:1-9  The word of Yahweh came to me again, saying,
2 "What do you mean when you use this proverb
concerning the land of Israel, saying:
'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge'?
3 "As I live," says the Sovereign Yahweh,
"you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel.
4 "Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father
as well as the soul of the son is Mine;
THE SOUL WHO SINS SHALL DIE.
5 But if a man is just and does what is lawful and right;
6 If he has not eaten on the mountains,
nor lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel,
nor defiled his neighbor's wife, nor approached a woman during her impurity;
7 If he has not oppressed anyone, But has restored to the debtor his pledge;
Has robbed no one by violence,
But has given his bread to the hungry and covered the naked with clothing;
8 If he has not exacted usury nor taken any increase,
But has withdrawn his hand from iniquity
And executed true judgment between man and man;
9 If he has walked in My statutes and kept My judgments faithfully;
He is just; He shall surely live!" Says the Sovereign Yahweh.

Chapter 18 continues in the same manner,
discussing the fate of the righteous and the unrighteous.
Each is determined by his position of righteousness when he dies.

Chapter 21 depicts Babylon as the "sword of Yahweh's wrath"

Chapter 24 records the day Babylon comes to Jerusalem to destroy the city.

Chapter 28 contains an interesting passage about the "king of Tyre"
Some say it is about a literal king of that ancient city.
However, many scholars read this as a prophecy against the Adversary, Satan:
Verses 1-10 do indeed seem to be against an arrogant human king.
But consider these verses:
Ezekiel 28:11-17  Moreover the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
12 "Son of man, take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him,
Thus says the Sovereign Yahweh:
You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in Eden, the garden of Elohim;
Every precious stone was your covering:
The sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper,
sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold.
The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes
was prepared for you on the day you were created.
14 "YOU WERE THE ANOINTED ( MESSIAH! )CHERUB who covers;
I established you; you were on the holy mountain of Elohim;
You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.
15 YOU WERE PERFECT in your ways from the day you were created,
until iniquity was found in you.
16 By the abundance of your trading
you became filled with violence within, and you sinned;
Therefore I cast you as a profane thing out of the mountain of Elohim;
and I destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the fiery stones.
17 Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty;"
you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor;
I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, that they might gaze at you.

Isaiah 14:12-17 presents a similar view.

In the third section of Ezekiel,
the section that presents the future restoration of Israel,
chapter 37 stands out because of two important prophecies,
the valley of dry bones and the two sticks.
In 37:1-14, Ezekiel is shown a valley full of dry bones.
He is commanded to declare the word of Yahweh to the bones.
The bones come together, flesh comes upon them, and they come to life!
Ezekiel 37:11-14  Then He said to me,
Son of man, THESE BONES ARE THE WHOLE HOUSE OF ISRAEL.
They indeed say, Our bones are dry, our hope is lost,
and we ourselves are cut off!
12 Therefore prophesy and say to them, 'Thus says the Sovereign Yahweh:
Behold, O My people, I will open your graves
and cause you to come up from your graves,
and bring you into the land of Israel.
13 "Then you shall know that I am Yahweh,
when I have opened your graves, O My people,
and brought you up from your graves.
14 "I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live,
and I will place you in your own land.
Then you shall know that I, Yahweh, have spoken it and performed it,"
says Yahweh.

The remarkable two sticks prophecy follows immediately:
Ezekiel 37:15-19  Again the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
16 "As for you, son of man, take a stick for yourself and write on it:
'For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions.'
Then take another stick and write on it,
For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions.
17 Then join them one to another for yourself into one stick,
and they will become one in your hand.
18 And when the children of your people speak to you, saying,
Will you not show us what you mean by these?;
19 say to them, 'Thus says the Sovereign Yahweh:
"Surely I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim,
and the tribes of Israel, his companions;
and I will join them with it, with the stick of Judah,
and make them one stick, and they will be one in My hand."'

Ezekiel 37:24-26  "David My servant shall be king over them,
and they shall all have one shepherd;
they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them.
25 Then they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant,
where your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell there,
they, their children, and their children's children, forever;
and My servant David shall be their prince forever.
26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them,
and it shall be an everlasting covenant with them;
I will establish them and multiply them,
and I will set My sanctuary in their midst forevermore."

This is a clear prophecy of Yahweh's kingdom and
contains the same ideas as the New Covenant promise of Jeremiah 31:31-34!

Chapter 44 prophesies of the Levitical priesthood
serving Yahweh again in the Kingdom era.
Ezekiel 44:23-24  "And they shall teach My people the difference
between the holy and the unholy,
and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.
24 In controversy they shall stand as judges,
and judge it according to My judgments.
They shall keep My laws and My statutes in all My appointed meetings,
and they shall hallow My Sabbaths."

This is echoed in Malachi:
Malachi 3:3-4  He ( Yahshua )will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver;
He will purify the sons of Levi,
and purge them as gold and silver,
that they may offer to Yahweh an offering in righteousness.
4 Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasant to Yahweh,
as in the days of old, as in former years.

The final chapters of Ezekiel show the glorious future of Israel and of Jerusalem.
This is a dual prophecy.
Some parts apply to both while others apply to the Kingdom era.

Next Sabbath we intend to look at the quotations from Ezekiel
in the NT and perhaps in some songs we sing.

Let us all bear in mind Ezekiel's message of rebuke for sin
and the wonderful future Yahweh wants us to have.

May Yahweh bless you and your family with love and Shalom.

 Zephaniah the Prophet

Reading time 6 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Zephaniah the Prophet wrote about 630 B.C.E.
His name means "Yahweh has concealed "or Yahweh of darkness.
He wrote during the reign of Josiah, king of Judah.
He was actually the great-great-grandson of king Hezekiah.
He and Jeremiah would have known each other.

The book of Zephaniah is entirely the words of Yahweh!
The only exception is 1:1.

The book is only two pages
and it begins with warnings of Yahweh's judgement.
The day of Yahweh is forecast and it isn't nice.
Zephaniah 1:7  Be silent in the presence of the Sovereign Yahweh;
For the day of Yahweh is at hand,
For Yahweh has prepared a sacrifice; He has invited His guests.

Zephaniah 1:14-15  The great day of Yahweh is near;
It is near and hastens quickly.
The noise of the day of Yahweh is bitter;
There the mighty men shall cry out.
15 That day is a day of wrath, A day of trouble and distress,
A day of devastation and desolation,
A day of darkness and gloominess,
A day of clouds and thick darkness,

Yahweh tells His children what to do:
Zephaniah 2:3  Seek Yahweh, all you meek of the earth,
Who have upheld His justice.
Seek righteousness, seek humility.
It may be that you will be hidden In the day of Yahweh's anger.

Yahweh then tells of His judgement against heathen nations:
Zephaniah 2:10  This they shall have for their pride,
Because they have reproached and made arrogant threats
Against the people of Yahweh of hosts.

In Chapter three Yahweh begins by talking about the sad state of Jerusalem.
He ends that with:
Zephaniah 3:7  I said, 'Surely you will fear Me, You will receive instruction';
So that her dwelling would not be cut off,
Despite everything for which I punished her.
But they rose early and corrupted all their deeds.

Then comes verse 8 in which Yahweh alludes to that day of Yahweh:
Zephaniah 3:8  "Therefore wait for Me," says Yahweh,
"Until the day I rise up for plunder;
My determination is to gather the nations to My assembly of kingdoms,
To pour on them My indignation, All my fierce anger;
All the earth shall be devoured with the fire of My jealousy.

Someone wrote that this idea appears in Revelation:
Revelation 16:14  For they are spirits of demons, performing signs,
which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world,
to gather them to the battle of that great day of Yahweh Almighty.

It may seem that statement does not agree with the scriptures.
Zephaniah 3:8 says Yahweh will gather the nations
but Revelation 16:14 says the nations will gather of their accord.
We must realize that Yahweh is directing them
and that is what makes them gather.

In the last twelve verses (3:8-20) Yahweh shares
the promise of end-time salvation in His kingdom:
Zephaniah 3:9-20  "For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language,
That they all may call on the name of Yahweh,
To serve Him with one accord.
10 From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia My worshipers,
The daughter of My dispersed ones, Shall bring My offering.
11 In that day you shall not be shamed for any of your deeds
in which you transgress against Me;
For then I will take away from your midst those who rejoice in your pride,
And you shall no longer be haughty in My holy mountain.
12 I will leave in your midst a meek and humble people,
And they shall trust in the name of Yahweh.
13 The remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness and speak no lies,
Nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth;
For they shall feed their flocks and lie down and no one shall make them afraid."
14 Sing, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O Israel!
Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem!
15 Yahweh has taken away your judgments, He has cast out your enemy.
The King of Israel, Yahweh, is in your midst; you shall see disaster no more.
16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: 'Do not fear;
Zion, let not your hands be weak.
17 Yahweh your Elohim in your midst, the Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.
18 I will gather those who sorrow over the appointed assembly,
who are among you, To whom its reproach is a burden.
19 Behold, at that time I will deal with all who afflict you;
I will save the lame, And gather those who were driven out;
I will appoint them for praise and fame in every land
where they were put to shame.
20 At that time I will bring you back. Even at the time I gather you;
For I will give you fame and praise among all the peoples of the earth
when I return your captives before your eyes," says Yahweh.

Let us all strive to be among the meek and repentant ones
who will dwell in Yahweh's grace and mercy.

May Yahweh bless you and your family with shalom and love.

Please pray for Cathy and I in a time of some trouble.

Nahum the Prophet

Reading time 3 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Nahum wrote a two-page book that bears is name.

The Hebrew name Nahum means "compassion," or "comfort"
and is interesting in light of Yahweh's promises throughout the book
of comfort and deliverance for his people.

The earliest date Nahum could have written is 663 B.C.E.
This is the date of the fall of Thebes to which he refers here:
Nahum 3:8-10  Are you ( Nivevah )any better than Thebes,
surrounded by rivers, protected by water on all sides?
9 Ethiopia and the land of Egypt
were the source of her strength, which seemed without limit.
The nations of Put and Libya also helped and supported her.
10 Yet Thebes fell, and her people were led away as captives.
Her babies were dashed to death against the stones of the streets.
Soldiers cast lots to see who would get the Egyptian officers as servants.
All their leaders were bound in chains.

The latest he could have written is 612 B.C.E.
That is the date of the fall of Ninevah
which is prophesied as a future event in much of the book of Nahum.
It seems more likely that the book was written closer to 612.

The book has two main sections, chapter 1 and chapters 2-3.
The first section begins with verse 1:2 and talks about
Yahweh's good and just nature
and his certain judgment of those who plot against him.

Chapters two and three predict the destruction of Ninevah, the Capitol of Assyria.

Nahum 1:15 and Isaiah 52:7 both contain the phrese:
"upon the mountains the feet of him who brings news of peace."

Years earlier Yahweh had sent the prophet Jonah to testify against Ninevah
and had accepted their repentance.
But they had again fallen into evil, sin, vicious cruelty, and bloodshed.
Yahweh judged the cruel Assyrians and also the repentant Judeans.
2 Corinthians 5:10  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of
the Messiah, that each one may receive the things done in the body,
according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

The destruction of the Assyrian empire caused many changes in the region.
They had been very cruel warriors and rulers.

Every book of the Old Testament is quoted in the New except
Obadiah, Nahum, Zephaniah, and Esther.
So, no NT quotes for this prophet.

An interesting link has been noted between Psalm 34 and
Nahum, which is the 34th book in our Bible.

Psalms 34:8  Oh, taste and see that YAHWEH IS GOOD;
Blessed is THE MAN WHO TRUSTS IN HIM!

Nahum 1:7 YAHWEH IS GOOD, A stronghold in the day of trouble;
And He knows THOSE WHO TRUST IN HIM.

Let us all trust in our mighty Elohim Yahweh
and know that He is good to His people.

May Yahweh bless you and your family with peace and love.

Jeremiah in the NT

Reading time 8 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Today we will review the quotations from Jeremiah in the NT

Jeremiah is quoted several times in the NT.
Some of these quotations do not quote the words
but rather they use the ideas from Jeremiah.
The quotes are not very numerous but some are important.
Here are the quotations:
Each set of scriptures will be set apart by a line of asterisks ?

Last Sabbath we cited the quotation of the New Covenant
found in Jeremiah 31:31 and quoted in Hebrews 8.

Jeremiah 7:11  "Has this house, which is called by My name,
become a den of thieves in your eyes?
Behold, I, even I, have seen it," says Yahweh.

Matthew 21:12-13  Then Jesus went into the temple of Elohim
and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple,
and overturned the tables of the money changers
and the seats of those who sold doves.
13 And He said to them, "It is written,
'My house shall be called a house of prayer,'
but you have made it a 'den of thieves.'"

This passage is also quoted in Mark 11:17 and Luke 19:46

Jeremiah 9:24  But let him who glories glory in this,
That he understands and knows Me, That I am Yahweh,
exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.
For in these I delight," says Yahweh.

1 Corinthians 1:31  that, as it is written,
"He who glories, let him glory in Yahweh."

2 Corinthians 10:17  But "he who glories, let him glory in Yahweh."

In this case the idea seems to be from Jeremiah:
Jeremiah 10:6  Inasmuch as there is none like You, O Yahweh
(You are great, and Your name is great in might),

Revelation 15:4  Who shall not fear You, O Yahweh,
and glorify Your name?
For You alone are holy.
For all nations shall come and worship before You,
For Your judgments have been manifested."

Jeremiah 18:6  "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?"
says Yahweh. "Look, as the clay is in the potter's hand,
so are you in My hand, O house of Israel!

Romans 9:21  Does not the potter have power over the clay,
from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?

The idea of Yahshua's authority as King:
Jeremiah 23:5-6  "Behold, the days are coming," says Yahweh,
"That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;
A King shall reign and prosper,
And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.
6 In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely;
Now this is His name by which He will be called:
YAHWEH OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Matthew 28:18  And Yahshua came and spoke to them, saying,
"All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

Acts 2:29-33  "Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you
of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried,
and his tomb is with us to this day.
30 "Therefore, being a prophet,
and knowing that Yahweh had sworn with an oath to him
that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh,
He would raise up the Messiah to sit on his throne,
31 "he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Messiah,
that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.
32 "This Yahshua Yahweh has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.
33 "Therefore being exalted to the right hand of Elohim,
and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit,
He poured out this which you now see and hear.

Jeremiah 30:7  Alas! For that day is great, So that none is like it;
And it is the time of Jacob's trouble, But he shall be saved out of it.

Matthew 24:21  "For then there will be great tribulation,
such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time,
no, nor ever shall be.

Jeremiah 31:9  They shall come with weeping,
And with supplications I will lead them.
I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters,
In a straight way in which they shall not stumble;
For I am a Father to Israel, And Ephraim is My firstborn.

Jeremiah 50:8  "Move from the midst of Babylon,
Go out of the land of the Chaldeans; And be like the rams before the flocks.

Jeremiah 51:45  "My people, go out of the midst of her!
And let everyone deliver himself from the fierce anger of Yahweh.

2 Corinthians 6:17-18  Therefore "Come out from among them And be separate,
says Yahweh. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you."
18 "I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says Yahweh Almighty."

Jeremiah 31:15  Thus says Yahweh:
"A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation and bitter weeping,
Rachel weeping for her children,
Refusing to be comforted for her children, Because they are no more."

Matthew 2:16-18  Then Herod,
when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry;
and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem
and in all its districts, from two years old and under,
according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.
17 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:
18 "A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning,
Rachel weeping for her children,
Refusing to be comforted, Because they are no more."

Jeremiah 31:33-34  "But this is the covenant that I will make
with the house of Israel after those days, says Yahweh:
I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts;
and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.
34 "No more shall every man teach his neighbor,
and every man his brother, saying, 'Know Yahweh,'
for they all shall know Me,
from the least of them to the greatest of them, says Yahweh.
For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more."

Hebrews 10:16  "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days,
says Yahweh:
I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,"

Jeremiah 32:17  'Ah, Master Yahweh! Behold,
You have made the heavens and the earth
by Your great power and outstretched arm.
There is nothing too hard for You.

Matthew 19:26  But Yahshua looked at them and said to them,
"With men this is impossible, but with Elohim all things are possible."

Jeremiah 51:7  Babylon was a golden cup in the Yahweh's hand
that made all the earth drunk.
The nations drank her wine; Therefore the nations are deranged.

Revelation 18:3  "For all the nations have drunk of the wine
of the wrath of her fornication,
the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her,
and the merchants of the earth have become rich
through the abundance of her luxury."

Jeremiah lived through some very trying times.
He saw Jerusalem fall to the Babylonians and
the remnant of Judah run to Egypt
contrary to Yahweh's command.

He was also abused perhaps more than any other prophet.

Let us all be as steadfast as this prophet
and stay faithful to our Elohim in every trial.

May Yahweh bless you and your family with safety and love.

  Habakkuk the Prophet

Reading time 6 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Habakkuk  prophesied to Judah about  640 B.C.E.
Before the conquest of Jerusalem by the Chaldeans (Babylonians)

His name means "Embrace."

His prophecy begins with a lament about the bad conditions in Jerusalem.
He asks why Yahweh does not correct His people.
Yahweh answers that He is preparing the Chaldeans to do just that.
Habakkuk 1:6  For indeed I am raising up the Chaldeans,
a bitter and hasty nation which marches through the breadth of the earth
to possess dwelling places that are not theirs.

There is some rehearsal of how bad the Jews have behaved:
Habakkuk 2:11-12  For the stone will cry out from the wall,
And the beam from the timbers will answer it.
12 "Woe to him who builds a town with bloodshed,
Who establishes a city by iniquity!"

(That is some picturesque writing!)

Habakuk wonders why Yahweh allows it.
Habakkuk 1:13  You are of purer eyes than to behold evil,
and cannot look on wickedness.
Why do You look on those who deal treacherously,
and hold Your tongue when the wicked
devours a person more righteous than he?

Habakkuk 2:19  Woe to him who says to wood, 'Awake!'
To silent stone, 'Arise! It shall teach!'
Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet in it there is no breath at all.

In the third and last chapter Habakuk offers a song of praise to Yahweh
and assurance for those who love and obey Him.

Habakkuk 3:17-19  Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines;
Though the labor of the olive may fail,
And the fields yield no food;
Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
And there be no herd in the stalls;
18 Yet I will rejoice in Yahweh,
I will joy in the Elohim of my salvation.
19 Yahweh my Elohim is my strength;
He will make my feet like deer's feet,
And He will make me walk on my high hills.

To the Chief Musician. With my stringed instruments.

The whole book is only two pages.
Perhaps you would be inspired by reading it.

The sections that are quoted in the NT are of interest:
Habakkuk 1:5  "Look among the nations and watch; Be utterly astounded!
For I will work a work in your days Which you would not believe,
though it were told you
.

Acts 13:41  'Look you mockers, be amazed and die!
For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn't believe
even if someone told you about it
.'"

Habakkuk 2:4  "Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him;
But the just shall live by his faith.

Romans 1:17  For in it the righteousness of Elohim is revealed from faith to faith;
as it is written, "The just shall live by faith."

Galatians 3:11  But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident,
for "the just shall live by faith."

Habakkuk 2:3  For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it; Because
it will surely come, It will not tarry.
4  "Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him;
But the just shall live by his faith.

Hebrews 10:37-38  "For yet a little while,
And He who is coming will come and will not tarry.
38 Now the just shall live by faith;
But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him."

Habakkuk 2:3  For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it; Because
it will surely come, It will not tarry.

Revelation 22:20  He who testifies to these things says,
"Surely I am coming quickly." Amen.
Even so, come, Master Yahshua!

This last is interesting because of the link between 2:14 and Isaiah 11:9-10
Isaiah fixes the time referred to as the time of Yahshua's return.
Habakkuk 2:14  For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of
the glory of Yahweh, As the waters cover the sea.

Isaiah 11:9-10  They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of Yahweh
As the waters cover the sea.
10 "And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse,
Who shall stand as a banner to the people;
For the Gentiles shall seek Him, And His resting place shall be glorious."

Let us all take comfort from the message of Habakuk,
a message of hope and love for those who love Yahweh.

May Yahweh bless you and your family with faith and
reward you with a crown of life in that great day.

                    The  Lamentations Of Jeremiah

Reading time 7 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

The Lamentations of Jeremiah were probably written within a few years
after the fall of Jerusalem in 587/6 B.C.E.

The Jews read this book each year on the date the temple was destroyed,
the ninth day of the fifth month, Tisha b'Av.

Perhaps they were written to be memorized and sung in Babylon
and in Egypt by the people of Judah.

There is a parallel to the book of Job
Job seems to be all about the tragedy of one man
while Lamentations is about the tragedy of the nation and the city.

Lamentations is in the form of poems
and not just poems but acrostic poems.
In chapters 1, 2, and 4 each verse starts with the next letter of the Hebrew alef-bet.
Chapter 3 has sets of three verses for each letter; 66 verses in all.
Chapter five does not follow the alef-bet although it does contain 22 verses.

There is an exception in chapters 2, 3, and 4
In these chapters the letter ayin comes after pe ( pronounced pay )
rather than before as it appears in the alef-bet.
There are two possible reasons for this:
First, it may have been one common order for the alef-bet at the time.
Second, it may have been done to call attention to the pe
because it stands for 70, the number of years the exile was to last
or because ayin stands for eye and pe stands for mouth.
Jeremiah didn't say.

Chapter one relates the desolation of Jerusalem.
Lamentations 1:1-2  How lonely sits the city that was full of people!
How like a widow is she who was great among the nations!
The princess among the provinces has become a slave!
2 She weeps bitterly in the night,
her tears are on her cheeks;
Among all her lovers she has none to comfort her.
All her friends have dealt treacherously with her;
They have become her enemies.

The first eleven verses are from the viewpoint of the author,
the second eleven are as if Jerusalem is speaking.
Jerusalem mourns for the trouble she has seen
but acknowledges that Yahweh's judgement on her is righteous.
Lamentations 1:18  "Yahweh is righteous,
For I rebelled against His commandment.
Hear now, all peoples,
And behold my sorrow;
My virgins and my young men Have gone into captivity.

In chapter two, Jeremiah writes as one of those
who has experienced the troubles of the city
Lamentations 2:11-12  My eyes fail with tears,
My heart is troubled;
My bile is poured on the ground
because of the destruction of the daughter of my people,
because the children and the infants faint in the streets of the city.
12 They say to their mothers, "Where is grain and wine?"
as they swoon like the wounded In the streets of the city,
as their life is poured out in their mothers' bosom.

After verse 17 he exhorts the people to call out to Yahweh in repentance
for the sake of the children.
Lamentations 2:19  Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the watches;
Pour out your heart like water before the face of Yahweh.
Lift your hands toward Him for the life of your young children,
Who faint from hunger at the head of every street.

Chapter 3 contains 66 shorter verses
instead of the 22 longer verses of chapters 1 and 2.
The first 21 verses mourn the trials of the author:
Lamentations 3:1-3
I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of His wrath.
2 He has led me and made me walk In darkness and not in light.
3 Surely He has turned His hand against me
time and time again throughout the day.

Verse 22 begins a section where he talks about the mercy of Yahweh.
The word "good" has not appeared before, but these three verses begin with it.
Lamentations 3:25-27 YLT
25 Good is Yahweh to those waiting for Him, to the soul that seeks Him.
26 Good! when one stays and stands still for the salvation of Yahweh.
27 Good for a man that he bears a yoke in his youth.

When we sin we often force Yahweh to punish us:
Lamentations 3:33 NIV
For He does not willingly bring affliction or grief to the children of men.

We must repent and wait for Yahweh's punishment to end.
It surely will end.

Chapter 4 returns to the discussion of the sins of Jerusalem.
The fault is with the people and their leaders,
the prophets, priests and kings.
Lamentations 4:11-13 Yahweh has given full vent to his wrath;
He has poured out his fierce anger.
He kindled a fire in Zion that consumed her foundations.
12 The kings of the earth did not believe, nor did any of the world's people,
that enemies and foes could enter the gates of Jerusalem.
13 But it happened because of the sins of her prophets
and the iniquities of her priests,
who shed within her the blood of the righteous.

Every class is afflicted with the punishment for Jerusalem's sins.

Even though the calamity was executed by the nation of Babylon,
the only other nation mentioned in Lamentations is Edom:
Lamentations 4:21  Rejoice and be glad, O Daughter of Edom,
you who live in the land of Uz.
But to you also the cup will be passed; you will be drunk and stripped naked.

Edom is related to Israel and they should have been allies.
But Edom had long been their enemy.
They may be happy to see Jerusalem's downfall today,
but their day is surely coming.

Chapter 5 is a final prayer to Yahweh:
Lamentations 5:1  Remember, O Yahweh, what has happened to us;
look, and see our disgrace.

Lamentations 5:21  Restore us to yourself, O Yahweh, that we may return;
renew our days as of old

The book of Lamentations is alluded to only twice in the NT
As you might guess, both cases are in the book of Revelations.
Both refer to this verse:
Lamentations 1:15  "Yahweh has rejected all the warriors in my midst;
He has summoned an army against me to crush my young men.
In his winepress Yahweh has trampled the Virgin Daughter of Judah.

Revelation 14:19  The angel swung his sickle on the earth,
gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of Yahweh's wrath.

And, referring to Yahshua:
Revelation 19:15  Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword
with which to strike down the nations.
"He will rule them with an iron scepter."
He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of Yahweh Almighty.

I see this book as a song to be sung by those Yahweh is punishing.
The song is designed to help them in repentance
and to draw them back to Yahweh's loving mercy.

It grows out of Jeremiah's great grief over the sins
that brought on this needless pain.

It is a song of sorrow and pain
but also a song of some hope and a return to righteousness.

Perhaps we can use this song when we face trials and tests.

Let us all walk in righteousness and, when we fail, repent before Yahweh.

May Yahweh bless you and your family with a close relationship with Yahweh.

Isaiah the Prophet in Song.

Isaiah the Prophet in Song

Singing time 13 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

In the Rocheport congregation,
Isaiah the Prophet is known as one of our best song writers.

Here are some of the words we've lifted from our good brother Isaiah:

COME, LET US GO UP    Isaiah 2:3-4

CHORUS:
Come, let us go up, to the mountain of Yahweh;
To the house of the El of Jacob;
Come let us go up, to the mountain of Yahweh;
To the house of the El of Jacob.

And the law will go forth from Zion,
And the Word of Yahweh from Jerusalem,
We will walk in His footsteps,
And He will teach us His ways...

Chorus:

And He will judge many peoples,
And decide for many nations far and wide.
Swords will be beaten into plowshares,
And nations will not learn war again...

I  SEE  YAHWEH             Isaiah 6:1, 3

I see Yahweh, sitting on His throne;
He is high and lifted up and His train fills the temple.
He is high and lifted up and His train fills the temple.
The angels cry "Holy!"
The angels cry "Holy!"
The angels cry "Holy is Yahweh!"

PREPARE  YE  THE  WAY  OF  YAHWEH     Isaiah 40:3-5

Prepare ye the way of Yahweh, make His paths straight.
Every valley shall be filled,
And every mountain and hill shall be brought low;
And the crooked shall be made straight.
 And the rough ways shall be made smooth;
 And all flesh shall see the salvation of Yah.
Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy;
Break up your fallow ground;
 For it is time to seek Yahweh,
 Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.

TEACH  ME  YAH  TO  WAIT             Isaiah 40:31
Teach me Yah to wait,  down on my knees.
And in your good time  you'll answer my pleas.
Teach me not to rely  on what others do,
But to wait in prayer for  an answer from you.

CHORUS:
They that wait upon Yahweh  shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up  with wings as an eagle.
They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Teach me Yah,  teach me Yahweh to wait.

Teach me Yah to wait  while hearts are aflame.
Let me humble my pride  and call on your name.
Keep my strength renewed,  my eyes on you.
Let me be on this earth   what you want me to be.

Chorus

FEAR NOT              Isaiah 43:1-3
Fear not, for I have redeemed thee;
I have called thee by my name, Thou art mine.
When thou passest through the waters I will be with thee.
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee.
When thou passest through the fire,
You shalt not be burned.
Neither shall the flame kindle upon thee,
For I am Yahweh thy Elohim.

THEREFORE THE REDEEMED OF YAHWEH        Isaiah 51:11

Therefore the redeemed of Yahweh shall return,
And come with singing unto Zion;
And everlasting joy shall be upon their heads.

Therefore the redeemed of Yahweh shall return,
And come with singing unto Zion;
And everlasting joy shall be upon their heads.

They shall obtain  gladness and joy;
And sorrow, and mourning  shall flee away.

Therefore the redeemed of Yahweh shall return,
And come with singing unto Zion;
And everlasting joy shall be upon their heads.

YAHWEH  REIGNS!         Isaiah 52:7, 53:2-8

How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him
 That brings good news,  good news.
Announcing peace; proclaiming news of happiness;
 Yahweh reigns,  Yahweh reigns!
 Yahweh reigns,  Yahweh reigns!
 Yahweh reigns,  Yahweh reigns!

He had no stately form, He had no majesty,
 That we should be  drawn to Him.
He was despised, and we took no account of Him.
 Yet now He reigns,  with the Most High.
 Now He reigns,   now He reigns,
 Now He reigns,   with the Most High.

It was our sin and guilt, that bruised and wounded Him,
 It was our sin, that brought Him down.
When we like sheep had gone astray, our shepherd came,
 And on His shoulders  bore our shame.
 On His shoulders,   On His shoulders.
 On His shoulders,   He bore our shame.

Meek as a lamb, that's led out to the slaughter-house,
 Dumb as a sheep, before its shearer.
His life ran down  upon the ground like pouring rain,
 That we might be   born again.
 That we might be,  that we might be,
 That we might be   born again.

Out from the tomb He came with grace and majesty,
 He is alive! He is alive!
Yah loves us so, see here His hands, His feet, His side,
 Yes, we know,  He is alive!
 He is alive!   He is alive!
 He is alive!   He is alive!

How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him,
 That brings good news, good news.
Announcing peace; proclaiming news of happiness;
 Yahweh reigns,  Yahweh reigns!
 Yahweh reigns,  Yahweh reigns!
 Yahweh reigns,  Yahweh reigns!

TREES  OF  THE  FIELD          Isaiah 55:12

You shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace,
The mountains and the hills will break forth before you;
There'll be shouts of joy and all the trees of the field,
Will clap, will clap their hands.

And all the trees of the field will clap their hands (clap, clap)
And all the trees of the field will clap their hands;
And all the trees of the field will clap their hands,
As you go out with joy!

IN  THE  YEAR  OF  JUBILEE             Isaiah 61:1-2

In the year of jubilee, in the year of jubilee;
The prisons shall be opened, the captives all set free.
What a glorious restoration, what a mighty victory;
The sons of Yah appearing in the year of jubilee!

BEAUTY  FOR  ASHES            Isaiah 61:3

He gives me  beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise
For the spirit of heaviness;
That we might be trees of righteousness,
The planting of Yahweh,
That He might be glorified.

What a blessing Yahweh has sent to us through Isaiah!
We are inspired, encouraged and uplifted!

May our Father Yahweh strengthen your faith and
help you to strengthen others.
